pulling back the semi-sheer curtain of dorkiness

Last night I went to the Hatchery where I had a fabulous and interesting time reporting for a story I'm doing for Marketplace. It's all about the art of the pitch - you know - like an elevator pitch. What you say when you have five minutes to present yourself (something I personally never have to worry about).

Stranger: So what do YOU do?
Me: Ahhh....ummm... report stuff?*
Stranger: Really? That's FASCINATING. And how did you get into THAT?
Me: Um... well... actually it was sort of an accident. So what do YOU do?

And I can't really say anymore, except that again, I had a truly wonderful time whilst crawling around the floor with my microphone trying to suck up interesting sounds dropped by fascinating people. I'll confess, I even ate a few sonic crumbs right off of the ground! They were that good.

This morning after a bracing four or five hours of sleep I finished up a story for Weekend America on a club I'm in. At the moment it seemed better then Orange juice, and I never drink coffee. It was also super fun, although the wee-est bit embarrassing as I had to pull back the semi-sheer curtain that covers my dorkiness. Oh well. Anything for a story.

In just a little while my much missed old roomie Marianne is flying in from Germany and boy oh boy, is it gonna be great to see her!!

*note the use of the upward inflection at the end of the sentence - something I would never normally allow, but for some reason have made an exception here.

Sally, it was wonderful watching you crawl around on the floor for a story - a rare opportunity to see journalistic ethic at work.

You have a face for tv (not radio) so I can’t wait till your vlog goes live. Any time soon? I expect to see you salsa dancing with tall boys in the outtakes.

An avid fan...
