Daisy Dog

Oh and here's a close up of Daisy. I've been hired to create a character to "be" a british wine brand. Her name is Holly and she's below. This is her dog daisy.

Target audience? Young-ish cosmopolitan woman who drink wine. Are you a youngish cosmopolitan woman? What do you think?

Please share your lovely thoughts in my comment box below.

rRuf! (that's dog speak for "Thank you!")

ps - these are just sketches so it's fine to slam them.

Sally- I love Daisy, her name, look, everything, but Holly is just a bit too casual to be an UES young sophisticate. She should be a bit more sylish (read wearing black, heels...) The thing that every New York girl knows is how to "wow", even if it's on a budget. Holly should be a bit more confident about her effortlessness. That girl buys wine, Holly as is, seems a bit more like a margarita girl.

But hey, what do I know? I loves my vodka. And big South African reds (wine and boys!).

I am a youngish cosmopolitan woman who drinks my fair share of wine, and I'm totally in love with the dog. Maybe it's because I really want a dog and can't have one. But I love it and imagine an impish picture of the dog pulling along our heroine, and maybe she's tottering on her heels and trying to hold it all together in that cosmopolitan way that we can never quite pull off (gum on the shoe, tripped on a subway grate, you know the realities I'm speaking of). But I love the dog. I guess I want a little story with my sketch... nice job!

Andrea's comments seem pretty on the mark to me. The colors I would suggest turning the intensity down a little and saving a bright red as an accent. The dog is perfect. although I wonder if it's too much to have it's collar match something Holly is wearing? Just something to think about.

Holly is so red white and blue, did they ask for those colors? Maybe simply making her a brunette. She was probably a little goth girl in the early 90's, so you might want to ad an element that isn't goth, but might be if it was with a black dress and heavy eye liner.

I do love your style you work in. I hesitate to comment on your color because I think that is what your paintings have a lot to do with. So fresh and spontaneous! Good luck!

Sally,
I agree with bklyn diva. I love the names, the backstory, like Daisy but Holly seems a little too young. She needs to look more sophisticated. I wonder also if the drawing style needs to be a little cleaner or the lines a little stronger (without losing the personality). I also think the same might be true for Daisy, although she's adorable. I also wonder if maybe DAisy should be a different color. The red is so strong that it distracts from Holly. Maybe white with black sopts? Holly's facial expression in this drawing suggests innocence -- not sure if you are going for that or not. Can't wait to see the next draft!

Hi Sally! i would like to see her skin a tone-would give her an identity and "fleshing" out her age, maturity, life experience, mayhaps? I love the dog.

Thanks for all the feedback. Here's what I've learned from this (and the email I've gotten). Brunettes? Apparently more popular then blondes. Holly needs a color change. (Score one for the home team! ). Also, she could use some hotter clothing and maybe needs to spend some time on the tanning bed.

Amy - I'm totally with you! That's exactly what I had in mind - Holly trying to get her stuff together with Daisy making a mess on the back of the bottle. I'm going much more for an Ugly Betty then a cover of cosmo type of persona. There's a whole lot I can relate to in Ugly Betty, a lot more then with Paulina Por-what's her name or any of the other totally perfect cover models.

Daisy however is just grand. Woof! Truth be told I like Daisy better then Holly. I would totally buy a bottle of wine with Daisy on it. Do we even need Holly? Does a person have to be on the wine label?

Andrea - I don't think anyone is as sophisticated as Y-O-U! I was about to ask you what UES stood for and then I figured it out. duh.

Sally I am so excited for you. And I agree with the above comments. Brunette (updo maybe ? ), black dress & heels, maybe make Daisy a pug ? Although she is really really cute as she is.
