Mystery Solved: It's Your Fault.
The mystery of the little German porcupine/hedgehog below has been solved by my German roommate Marianne.
Apparently what I thought was an "o" is actually a "d". Schulo is not schul"o", but schul"D". Marianne, after pointing out that the porcupine (or hedgehog) is a well known German character whose name she can't recall (how well known can he be??) says that the text translates thusly:
It's your fault when you're freezing.
Mystery solved. It's your fault.
What have we learned from this?
1. Always carry a stove strapped to your your back to beat those winter chills?
2. All misunderstandings can be pinned upon German type designers from the 1980's?
3. It's helpful to have a German housemate tucked away in case of undecipherable dated postcards from unnamed writers?
